Immunisation education
Education requirements (PDF 219KB) for WA Health immunisation providers are outlined by the Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) of the WA Department of Health, to support providers with their understanding of the immunisation education requirements for their specific provider type.
All WA Health immunisation providers under the CEO of Health SASA (Structured Administration and Supply Arrangements) must complete the:
- HESA-accredited immunisation course relevant to their provider type; and the
- WA Health Immunisation Update and relevant vaccine online learning modules
For immunisation providers not covered under the WA Health CEO of Health Structured Administration and Supply Arrangements (SASA) seeking information on education requirements (e.g., nurses that work in general practice or at a hospital under a medical order, GPs, paramedics etc.), please contact your employer or the Medicines and Poisons branch. Those not working under the CEO of Health SASA can still access the online education modules, however these are not compulsory. Healthcare organisations holding a permit under the Medicines and Poisons Regulations 2016 can issue their own SASAs.
The immunisation clinical competency assessment guide will assist professionals to identify levels of competency in their immunisation practice. Whilst the guide is optional it can be a good reference for immunisation providers who are at varying levels of competency. As such, the assessment tool is not a mandatory requirement of the immunisation course.
The Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program course covers comprehensive clinical knowledge relating to immunisation.
