SA Health Immunisation Course Scholarships for WA Registered Nurses

Expressions of interest for the SA Health Immunisation Course Scholarships for WA Registered Nurses have now closed.

The Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) would like to thank all the applicants of the scholarship program to cover registration costs for eligible Western Australian Registered Nurses to undertake the South Australia Health Immunisation Course Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program (external site).

Expressions of interest for the course scholarship are now closed. Successful participants will be reviewed and contacted in the coming months.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be a Registered Nurse registered with AHPRA and based in Western Australia.
  • Applicants must provide consent for WA Health to contact them with information about potential future immunisation employment opportunities. NOTE: Participation in this course does not guarantee employment opportunities within WA Health, however CDCD will circulate information around opportunities if or when they arise.

Selection process

  • Limited funded places are available and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis of meeting all the eligibility criteria.
  • After you have submitted your Expression of Interest (EOI) you will receive an email within 5 business days stating if you are successful, waitlisted or unsuccessful (please note all non-eligible submissions will not be considered).
  • We appreciate your patience in waiting to receive your email detailing the status of your application and value your understanding that due to the large volume of interest in the funded program, we are not able to respond directly to enquires about your application.

Course expectations

  • If an applicant is successful in receiving a funded place, they will be emailed with an allocated start date. Once a voucher to enrol has been issued, the recipient must enrol using the voucher within 7 calendar days of the start date email being sent. After 7 calendar days, the voucher will expire and will not be re-instated for that individual.
  • Recipients of the funded places are expected to complete the online course within the maximum allowed period of 120 days (approximately 4 months). The course takes an estimated 70 hours of study to complete. The course start date begins on enrolment and not from the time the course is first accessed.
  • If the course is not completed within the required timeline, the recipient may be liable to pay the cost of the course at $350.

I have put in my Expression of Interest form but was unsuccessful. Can I re-apply?

The Expression of Interest (EOI) form should only be completed once by each Registered Nurse. A waiting list will be held in case funded places become available again.

I have already paid and enrolled for the course before this initiative was available. Can I get WA Health to reimburse me?

As you enrolled prior to the WA Health funded places being available, you are not eligible to receive a funded place or reimbursement.

How long is this initiative available for?

This initiative starts on Nov 8th and will cease once the number of registrations is exhausted. Once the initiative ends, information will be made available on this website and the EOI form will no longer be available.

If I am eligible, will I get a place?

There are limited funded places available. Places will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Once enrolment numbers are met, unfortunately you will not be offered a funded program place. However, you are more than welcome to enrol into the course at any time as a self-funded student.

When will the course start?

If successful, you will be sent an email with your allocated start date. You will then have 7 days from this email to enrol.

Can I choose my start date?

No, you will be allocated a start date and can enrol within the 7 calendar-day window.  We are not able to adjust start dates based on preferences.

What if I am unable to make the start date I am allocated?

You have 7 days to enrol into the course once a voucher has been issued. If this is not done, your voucher will expire and cannot be reinstated. We are not able to adjust start dates based on preferences.

If I am unable to enrol and commence the course within the 7 day time frame allocated, can I defer to another start date?

Unfortunately, if you are unable to start within the 7 day timeframe, your funded spot will be allocated to the next successful applicant on the waiting list.

What happens if I start the course but do not complete?

If successful, you have 7 days to enrol into the course from when you receive the voucher code. If this is not done, your voucher will expire, and you will lose your funded place. It is expected that you understand and accept the requirements of the online 70 CPD-hour course when enrolling and you are expected to complete the course. If the course is not complete, you may be liable for the cost of this course.

What data will I need to share with WA Health?

WA Health will require your contact information such as email and mobile contact number in order to provide you with information on employment opportunities.

Can I independently vaccinate once I complete the course?

No, you will still need to adhere to the WA requirements regarding authority to vaccinate e.g. under a medical order or a Structured Administration and Supply Arrangement (SASA).

Can I give COVID-19 vaccines once I complete this course?

To give COVID-19 vaccines as an independent nurse immuniser a Registered Nurse must complete the Government COVID-19 vaccination training modules.

Will completing this course guarantee me a role within WA Health?
