The Department of Health has reported six new cases of COVID-19 overnight.
The new cases include a man in his 40’s, a man in his 30’s, a woman in her 20’s and two young children of previously reported cases, who are all recently returned overseas travellers who are in hotel quarantine.
The other reported case is the captain of the bulk carrier the MV Aquagenie, a man in his 60’s, who remains in Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.
The State’s total number now stands at 973.
WA Health is monitoring 23 active cases of COVID-19 and 941 people have recovered from the virus in WA.
To date, the WA Department of Health has administered 76,082 COVID-19 vaccinations, including 16,232 people who have received both doses. Yesterday, 213 people were vaccinated.

Yesterday, 239 people were assessed for testing and swabbed at WA Health COVID clinics.
To date, 55 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia – 40 of the B.1.1.7 strain, 14 of the B.1.351 strain and one of the P1 variant (Brazilian variant).

Note: The cases of variant strains reported above are not new cases. Genome sequencing – to define the strain of the virus – is a separate laboratory process carried out after someone tests positive to COVID-19. All cases, regardless of strain, are managed by WA’s public health experts. The strains previously reported as the UK variant strain and South African variant strain will now be referred to as B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 respectively.
