COVID-19 update 19 May 2021

The Department of Health has reported no new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

The State’s total stands at 1015.

WA Health is monitoring six active cases of COVID-19 ­– 1000 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

To date, the WA Department of Health has administered 136,404 COVID-19 vaccinations, including 31,455 people who have received both doses. Yesterday, 2982 people were vaccinated.

The Commonwealth Government vaccination national roll-out figures can be found on theAustralian Department of Health website (external site).

Yesterday, 520 people were assessed for testing and swabbed at WA Health COVID clinics.

There have been 1,147,930 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 148,745 were from regional WA.

To date, 95 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia – 52 of the B.1.1.7 strain, 15 of the B.1.351 strain, 27 of the B.1.617 strain (Indian variant) and one of the P1 variant (Brazilian variant).

Note: The cases of variant strains reported above are not new cases. Genome sequencing – to define the strain of the virus – is a separate laboratory process carried out after someone tests positive to COVID-19. All cases, regardless of strain, are managed by WA’s public health experts. The strains previously reported as the UK variant strain and South African variant strain will now be referred to as B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 respectively.
