COVID-19 update 5 March 2021

The Department of Health has reported no new cases of COVID-19 overnight.

The State’s total number of confirmed cases stands at 914.

WA Health is monitoring three active cases of COVID-19 and 902 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

Yesterday 1199 people were vaccinated. To date, 5546 West Australians have received the COVID vaccine.

Yesterday at WA Health COVID clinics 561 people presented for testing – 554 were assessed and swabbed.

To date, 26 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia (18 B.1.1.7 of the strain and 8 of the B.1.351 strain).

There have been 879,233 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 128,970 were from regional WA.

Note: The cases of variant strains reported above are not new cases. Genome sequencing – to define the strain of the virus – is a separate laboratory process carried out after someone tests positive to COVID-19. All cases, regardless of strain, are managed by WA’s public health experts. The strains previously reported as the UK variant strain and South African variant strain will now be referred to as B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 respectively.
