Call for nominations - WA Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

Health practitioner members and community members

In accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Act 2010, the Minister for Health of Western Australia seeks nominations from suitable people residing in Western Australia for the following vacancies arising in 2023 for the WA Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (WA NMBA):

one qualified and registered health practitioner member, and
two community members.

The WA NMBA is established by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (National Board) and functions to support the work of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme to ensure the community has access to a safe health workforce.

Nominations should include a:

curriculum vitae (CV) with your contact details, date of birth, current occupation and any qualifications and experience relevant to membership of the board, and the details of two referees - no more than four pages, and
covering letter outlining how you meet the eligibility requirements and demonstrate the expected board member attributes outlined below - no more than three pages.

Eligibility requirements

Required

To be eligible for appointment as a practitioner member you must hold current registration as a nurse and/or midwife.
A person is eligible to be appointed as a community member only if they are not currently or have never previously been registered as a nurse and/or midwife.

Desirable

Practitioner members should bring sound experience in the health profession for which the board is established and will have an appreciation and understanding of the role of the WA NMBA.
Community members should bring sound community perspectives to the regulation of health practitioners.
It is anticipated that applicants are currently residing, and practitioner members are practising in Western Australia, including regional areas.
The Minister for Health is committed to the diversity of membership of the WA NMBA and encourages nominations from women and Aboriginal people.

Practitioner member applicants are expected to demonstrate the following attributes:

Community member applicants are asked to address the following additional attribute:

Strong community connection: can demonstrate a strong community connection/s and an ability to bring a public/lay perspective and voice to the regulatory work of state and territory boards.
