Environmental public health career promotion toolkit

The environmental health workforce is critical to public health protection and prevention.

As one of the largest employers of Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) in WA, local governments play an important role in promoting environmental health career pathways to attract people into the profession.

The Environmental Public Health Career Promotion campaign toolkit is designed to support local governments and other organisations in raising the profile of environmental health.

Objectives

The Department of Health’s Environmental Health Directorate initiated the Environmental Health Workforce Project in collaboration with the local government and university sectors to address the EHO workforce shortage and the decline in people choosing environmental health as a career.

A range of publications including social media tiles and suggested messaging have been developed to promote the profession to the local community.

Local government and other organisations are encouraged to download, co-badge and use these resources to raise the profile of environmental health and increase the number of people entering the profession.

This initiative aligns with Objective 4 – Enable of the State Public Health Plan which aims to bolster the public health workforce.
