The laws regulating the sale and promotion of tobacco products, and smoke-free areas are up for review and Western Australians are encouraged to participate.

While rates of smoking are declining in WA, it remains the leading cause of preventable death and illness. Two out of three long-term Western Australian smokers are likely to die from smoking.

In 2018, around 11 per cent of adults in WA were current smokers, down from 22 per cent in 2002.

The consultation aims to ensure tobacco control laws remain relevant and responsive to new and emerging issues.

You are invited to participate by completing an online survey on the Department of Health’s consultation hub (external site).

Further instructions, including a discussion paper and conditions for participation are available on the hub.

Submissions will be open for six weeks, closing 5.00pm, Friday 6 November 2020.
