Free HIV prevention medicine for people without a Medicare card

If you’re an international student, undocumented resident, or temporary visa holder living in WA, you may be eligible for free HIV prevention medicine.

  • From the 3 of March 2026, people living anywhere in WA who don’t have Medicare can access free HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)  from Royal Perth and Fremantle Hospital sexual health clinics. 

HIV PrEP is a simple daily medicine that dramatically reduces the chance of getting HIV. 

This initiative is part of a Commonwealth-funded program designed to reduce healthcare inequities and aligns with state, national and international targets to achieve virtual elimination of HIV transmission in Australia by 2030.
