Use in stir-fries, salads and vegetable side dishes.


  • Green or French: bright green beans.
  • Butter beans: creamy yellow colour, use as for green beans.
  • Runner beans: larger than green beans, trim sides and slice diagonally.
  • Broad beans: remove beans from shells, cook as for other beans.


Choose firm, unblemished beans.


In an airtight bag in refrigerator crisper.


Boil or steam for 4-5 minutes.

Microwave in a covered dish with 1 tablespoon water on high (100%) for 4–5 minutes depending on quantity, stirring after 2 minutes to ensure even cooking.

Serving suggestion

Cook beans. Gently heat a small amount of olive oil in a pan. Stir in some finely chopped fresh mint leaves then toss with the beans for 1–2 minutes. Serve as a vegetable side dish.
