Treatments and tests

COVID clinics

Testing is available at COVID clinics, regional public hospitals and health services, remote health clinics (where COVID clinics are not available) and, private pathology centres. For locations and opening days and times please see below.

  • Get tested for COVID-19 early – people are most infectious when they first experience symptoms.
  • Testing at public COVID-19 clinics (metropolitan and regional) is free. No Medicare card is required.
  • If you are under a quarantine direction, you must wear a face mask when you present for a COVID-19 test (including transit to and from the clinic).

Asymptomatic testing is only permitted under certain circumstances. It is generally limited to people who must isolate or quarantine, or who are in isolation or quarantine. For more information on the circumstances for asymptomatic testing view the Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs (PDF 237KB).

If you are self-quarantining, you are allowed to walk to the COVID clinic for testing, provided the clinic is within 2km of the place where you are quarantining. While walking, you must keep 1.5m from others as much as possible.

COVID-19 tests for the purpose of international visa requirements, G2G applications for travel interstate or work clearances are NOT available at public COVID clinics at any time. These tests can only be done at  private pathology clinics with a GP referral or pathology form.

A GP referral or pathology form must be presented at a private pathology clinic at all times.

Perth Airport COVID clinic

Arrivals must take a COVID-19 test at the Perth Airport COVID Clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician. A health screening at Perth Airport involves a series of questions related to symptoms of COVID-19 and a temperature check.

Travelers can also voluntarily request a test from the Perth Airport Clinic even if they are asymptomatic. If you have taken a test at the Perth Airport COVID clinic or any other COVID clinic you must self-isolate until you receive your COVID-19 test results, which may take up to 3 business days.

COVID clinics – regional

Testing at regional public COVID-19 clinics is free. No Medicare card is required. Stay home until you get your results.

People seeking testing in regional areas, where there isn’t a COVID clinic should go to a public hospital, health service or remote health clinic. Make sure you phone ahead to advise of your symptoms. Find out where to get tested for in regional and remote areas of WA (PDF 1.5MB).
